Romans went to the baths for many different reasons. One of these reasons was to socialize. At the baths you could meet up with a gang of friends and talk about the weather, discuss the latest gladiator tournament or arrest, you might even catch up on the gossip if you were a woman. Sometimes you would discuss politics. But its not all fun and games when it comes to that matter. in fact it is the exact opposite. Congressmen would hold long meetings in one of the baths private pools. Makes you wonder if the plan of killing Julius Ceaser was first devised in a public bathhouse.

Another reason you might go to the baths is to eat. Some of the meals you might have enjoyed were fruits, cakes, oysters, chops or spare ribs. While you bathed in a relaxing, hot, steamy bath, you could also enjoy a bowl of grapes brought to you by a local slave....besides the slave part that sounds pretty good to me.

One more reason you might go to the baths is to play games. You could always play games at home as well, but it was a whole lot more  fun with friends. One of the games you might have played watrigon a game of catch with three balls and three players which was very challenging. You might have also played a game that was more about skill than strength... like Tabula(a classic roman board game).

People also wheant to a library in the bathhouse after bathing, and chose from the amazing selection of books there. They would often read for hours before returning home.

The final reason why you might go to the Baths is actually quite obvious........BATHING!!!!!!!!!
