Lets imagine you were a roman citizen durring the height of the ancient roman empire, and you are planning to go to the baths in order to thoroughly cleanse your body for a big party you are throwing tonight. This is not your regular day to day rub down, it is a full on thurogh cleansing so you wont be socializing, just bathing.
You hand the guard at the door to the baths 4 quadrans, the regulated price for a woman to take a bath, and walk in. Now you would go to the changing room and take off all of your clothes and wear some sort of thin covering called a subligaculum, and sandals with a very thick sole. Next you would got to a room where a slave would massage oils deep into your skin. After that you would go to a courtyard in the middle of the public bath and excersise. You work up a sweat while lift ing weights and you decide that is enough excersise. After that you would go into very warm room. Next, a slave would use curved tool to scrape off the oil on your skin. After all o you cleansing is done, you sit in a warm bath, then a hot bath, then a cold bath. Now you are done bathing and can go prepare your home for the party.
